Mary Louise Hooper 1933-2019
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Mary Louise Hooper on October 22, 2019 at the age of 86 with loved ones by her side. Born in Lachute to the late Willis and Pauline (nee Samson) Hooper, she was the second of three children. Pre- deceased by her brother, Donald, and her sister, Frances. Dear sister-in- law of Pierrette Hooper. Cherished mother of Lezlee (Jeff) Sprenger; adored grandmother of Anna and Ben Sprenger; beloved aunt of Jeff (Margie) and Sue Hooper; treasured great aunt of Mike, Kristen (Nathan), Derek (Meghan), Nick and Danica and proud great grand- aunt of Ava and Zoe Hooper.
Mary Lou graduated from nursing in 1955 from the Montreal General Hospital. She practiced her profession in Vancouver, Montreal and Lachute. Upon retiring, Mary Lou was a tireless volunteer. Her leadership roles included being a trustee of the Lachute United Church, President of the Lachute Residence Corporation, Chair of the Board of the Lachute Residence and leader of exercise groups.
Mary Lou loved her family, friends and community. She was thankful to God for the gift of life. She was adventurous, independent and mentally strong. She was a giver. She was an engaged listener, insightful, wise and understanding. Mary Lou’s perseverance in the face of her own unexpected physical disability in her later years was an example of resilience to all. She will forever be lovely remembered by all who knew her.
The family thanks the dedicated services of the staff at the Lachute Residence. Many thanks also to the medical staff at the Lachute and St. Jerome Hospitals.
Mary Lou’s funeral will take place on Monday, October 28, 2019, presided over by United Church of Canada Reverend Cathy Hamilton, at Margaret Rodger Memorial Presbyterian Church at 463 rue Principale, Lachute, Quebec, J8H 1Y4. Visitation will be at 12 PM (noon). Service will commence at 1 PM. A reception will follow in the church hall from 2 PM to 4 PM. We thank the Presbyterian Church for allowing us to celebrate Mary Lou’s funeral in their beautiful church.
