Donald Joyce 1929-2022

Passed away peacefully at the Lachute Residence, on June 5th, 2022 in his 93rd year.

 Simply put, Donald loved life and those around him – both his family and his friends shared many special moments filled with stories and laughter. His love of the outdoors was a reflection of his lifelong connection to Shrewsbury and the home his father Stanley built at Joyce Lake back in 1931.  Don was known widely for his keen skills as a fly-fishman; he mastered the art of steering his boat while casting flies with precision, all while standing up and often balancing a cocktail in his other hand. He was also a passionate hunter, cross country skier and golfer. At the nearby Dunany Country Club, Don built many deep friendships and actively sat on the board for 8 years - two of those as President.

 Don was an infamous charmer who appreciated the finer things in life including good food, nice cars and of course, his beloved scotch. He was also one heck of a dancer and known for his lasting endurance at numerous social events.

 Blessed with a keen wit and an amazing memory, Don had the pleasure of recalling and sharing his many lifelong stories right up to his final days.

 He will be sadly missed by his children Jennifer (Gary), Richard (Caroline) and Tim (Heike), his grandchildren Sarah, Alexa, Taylor, Sean, Ashley and India, his great grandchildren James, Theo, Charlie, Oliver, Arthur and Gloria , extended family and friends.

A grave site ceremony will be held privately.

Sincere appreciation to the wonderful caring staff at Residence Lachute, and donations in lieu of flowers to the Residence would be greatly appreciated.
